The turning point isn’t normally where you go to start a business relationship, but that’s how Ryan McKenzie and Stevie Andujar started.
“Right now we’re sort of in a marriage,” Andujar said jokingly.
The couple did not stay together, but they remained friends and business partners. They run Kitchen Ghost Painting together.
It’s a business that was born “out of boredom,” according to McKenzie.
“We were literally in Ryan’s kitchen one day, and we just looked for a recipe and we were like ‘make chocolate chip cookies,’” said Andujar.
The couple posted information about their cookies on social media, leading to people asking to buy a bundle. From there it was all about trying to get the cookies to the hungry audience.
“We didn’t go to Walmart, we went to Walmart. It took us about four or five hours to find the right packaging, ”McKenzie said.
It was the start of Table. The name is believed to be reminiscent of Apple’s branding – a simple one-word brand that people might associate with their product.
“We thought like ‘oh, like Chef’s Table,’” McKenzie said. “And then we just landed on the word table and we were like, ‘It’s like a simple, but it’s intriguing and I don’t know, I like it so much. “

The table began in September 2020. Cookies remain the brand’s flagship product, but the couple have also started to venture into savory items for their pop-ups in Central Florida.
“Our macaroni and cheese. It’s called macaroni and WAP – WAP stands for Aged White Parmesan – it’s our most popular savory dish, ”McKenzie said. “And then we just introduced our garlic chicken to the markets, which is our garlic mashed potatoes with roasted asparagus and seared chicken. It’s awesome.
“Originally, we wanted (Table) to be more media-based and not product-based – and I still want to move towards that because that’s what interests me,” Andujar said.
Kitchen Ghost Painting ships their cookies across the country and you can find them at farmers’ markets and other events in central Florida.
In the latest episode of Florida Foodie, McKenzie and Andujar talk more about the challenges and successes of running their own business. They also rejoice in their waffles and talk about how people can’t seem to get their business name right.
