Deciding on kitchen lighting can be totally overwhelming. You really need to be able to see what you’re doing, but you don’t just want harsh spotlights.
Sophie Robinson, interior designer and host of Dream house makeover with Sophie Robinson on Channel 5 shared a kitchen lighting idea to make the space much cozier.
Sophie Robinson’s Kitchen Lighting Tip
Sophie Robinson advises you to add a table lamp to your kitchen worktop. “I think it’s really nice to have style moments in the kitchen, so it’s not all utilitarian.”
“I have a decorative table lamp with a silk shade on my worktop that you would normally see on a living room side table,” Sophie explains. The interior designer recommends borrowing living room ideas from this way and using them in the kitchen.
It can be a lamp, a vase, a nice tray or even a work of art and wallpaper. “I love my little lamp lit at night,” says Sophie. “You need task lighting when cooking food, of course, but there are other parts of the kitchen where you just want a nice glow.”
Sophie comments that we hang out in our kitchens so much, that we spend time there with the family in the evenings. So of course we don’t want harsh light and shiny white walls.
We want kitchen ideas that create comfort and softness. “A table lamp on a countertop is an instant way to turn it on,” says Sophie.
Along with essential lighting, the queen of color is also a big proponent of injecting color into the kitchen by painting the cupboards. “It will instantly elevate your kitchen.
“Holiday weekend, a can of paint, knock yourself out,” she laughs.
