Midwood Two-Bedroom Sponsor Unit w/ Deco Arches, Renovated Kitchen, Two Baths Asks for $465,000

In Midwood, this sponsor unit offers a few decor details along with an updated kitchen and the bonus of two full bathrooms. It is on the second floor of a six-story 1930s building known as Versailles at 1717 Avenue N.

The brick building, which wraps around Avenue N to 18th Street, was designed by Kavy & Kavovitt, who were busy designing apartment buildings in Brooklyn and Queens at the time. Here the restrained brick building has horizontal bands of brick detailing and a parapet ornament seen most clearly in the historical tax photo. The entrance has a zipped Art Deco plume with streamlined metal lettering spelling out the name of the building, a metal front door with a circular window, and panels of stylized floral ornament on either side.

No floor plan is included in the listing, but photos show a typical period layout and spacious interior, with rooms accessible from a large hall. This foyer features an arched niche and many of the doors that open to rooms beyond feature whimsical matching stepped arches, a style detail found in other units in the building.

Wood floors and picture rails extend into the living room, which has two exposures. The listing notes that the apartment is a corner unit.

The renovated kitchen has a windowed dining area with room for a table as well as generous storage space in the white cabinets. There are black countertops and a white subway tile backsplash. Stainless steel appliances include a dishwasher.

One of the two bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom, also renovated and covered in white subway tiles and a step leading to a walk-in shower. The other full bathroom has been remodeled with the same white and gray palette, but has a tub.

The listing promises “closets galore” and photos show there are at least three in or near the lobby.

The listing says there are also “storage options” in the building, as well as a laundry, super, and doorman. There’s also an attractive Art Deco lobby with patterned flooring and a pastoral wall mural. Unit monthly maintenance is $1,015 per month.

Listed with Ann Marie Barker under the alternate address of 1701 Avenue N, the apartment is priced at $465,000. If you’re curious enough to see it in person, there’s an open house by appointment on Saturday, April 30 from 1-3 p.m. What do you think ?
