Part of the 2021 Strictly Come Dancing celebrity cohort, John Whaite rose to fame when he won The Great British Bake Off in 2012 – at just 23 – but is now taking the dance world by storm.
The Lancashire-born baker has teamed up with Johannes Radebe for the popular BBC One dance competition, which ends next weekend.
Away from Strictly, John is in love with his fiancé Paul Atkins. The couple have been together for over 12 years, and after selling their London pad they moved to Leeds – where they now both reside together.
Open to his lavish London apartment, John has often invited the camera to his home to give his fans a glimpse of the inside.
To celebrate John’s dancing prowess in the competition so far, we’re taking a look around his chic home.
Converted hospital apartment
In 2013, John and his partner Paul moved into a beautiful converted military hospital apartment in South East London.
The one bed apartment was spacious, stylish, and full of dreamy accents and interiors. With 12 foot high ceilings and sash windows, her apartment was lavish and chic.
John spoke to Right Move in 2016, where he said: “I fell in love with the apartment as soon as we saw it.”
In 2016 John and his fiance decided to put their house up for sale so that they could move to Leeds, where John’s business is located. In his conversation with Right Move, John said: “I am sad to sell the apartment, but the business for me is now in place in Lancashire.”
The apartment had many impressive features, one being that it is a Grade II classified development.
Other features include a pool, gymnasium and tennis court within the complex, as well as a much coveted private parking space.
Huge kitchen for cooking
Everywhere John lives, there is bound to be a huge kitchen equipped with everything he needs to prepare for a storm.
The baker-turned-dancer’s London apartment had lavish kitchen space, complete with high-end items. And it is even there that he wrote his second and third books.
Speaking to Right Move while the apartment was on the market, he said, “The size of the kitchen is what sold it to me, as well as the beautiful grounds.
“I had three very happy years here – my second and third books were written from the kitchen. And my third book was photographed there (the cover shelves are in the living room).”
Located in the London Borough of Greenwich, John and Paul’s townhouse was surrounded by lush green spaces, perfect for nature lovers.
And being just 1.8 miles from Eltham station, 1.3 miles from Kidbrooke station and 1.4 miles from Woolwich Dockyard station, they were brilliantly located.
The apartment complex was a converted Hilarity Hospital and was part of the historic development of the Royal Herbert Pavilions.
Built in 1865, the Royal Herbert Pavilions is a converted Grade II listed military hospital by Oxleas Woods.
Both practical and chic, the decor chosen by John and his fiancee in their one-bedroom apartment was full of chic touches.
The living room had a gray and neutral color scheme and boasted of having gigantic book shelves – perfect for storing a range of John’s favorite cookbooks and baking books.
A large wooden table stood in the living room, with a transparent vase in the center that showed three stems of dried hydrangeas.
Clearly in a few subtle bright colored touches, the living room also featured a chunky, studded armchair.
Lovers of the cream color, in the apartment there was a cream three-seater sofa and a cream double bed with a studded headboard.
Gray accents spread from room to room – gray walls, gray linens and gray throws.
Not much is known about her current home, but we bet it is full of lavish details, just like her old apartment!
