The holiday season is in full swing and we are nearing the big day. With much of the holiday season centered around food and drink, it’s no wonder Christmas dinner is a highlight for most of us and a big part of the celebration. And of course, the Christmas table is where we all meet.
Whatever your Christmas style, I’m going to share some handy tips to help you create a cozy and festive setting.
Start with a theme
If you limit your color scheme, it is much easier to make things consistent. If you’re not sure which style to choose, classic red and gold always add a traditional look.
This is an important element – your centerpiece is in the center of the table and it should be successful in attracting everyone. From elegant candle arrangements to vibrant flower displays, there are so many options.
Tip: Make sure your centerpiece doesn’t take up the space you’ll need for food.
This is a personal choice, some of us might like to cover our dining tables and others would like to show it. I would suggest a tablecloth if you are not happy to show off your table and choosing a solid red color will make your table stand out. And for those who like to show off their dining tables, this is where a table runner comes in. A table runner is a perfect way to give your dining table some Christmas cheer.
If you’re investing in a full dinnerware collection, whether it’s a party collection or a solid color, make sure everything you buy is functional. Ask yourself; is it good quality? Is it timeless? Can you develop the collection year after year and also remind yourself after a busy day that our Christmas tableware should ideally be dishwasher safe.
Put down your refill plates or your placemats. Add your dinner plates first, then salad plates and bowls for starters. All that’s on top is the dish your guests should need first, and they should be able to work through the dishes.
It’s time for the finishing touches. Personalized name settings are a thoughtful and stylish way to make sure every guest at your table feels the Christmas spirit! Add a little gift to your table, maybe a Christmas cookie or Christmas decoration, it adds a festive touch and guests can take them home as a way to remember the celebrations.
Finally if you are lucky enough to be able to avoid using the table for Christmas breakfast, I would certainly advise you to prepare it the day before, preparation is essential.
