Alton’s cuisine and cocktails in the Jetton Village shopping center in Lake Norman will close on January 29 to make way for a new concept.

Cambridge Hotel Group bought the restaurant with the intention of doing renovations and reopening in March as Peninsula Prime Seafood & Steakhouse. the the news was first reported by Cornelius today.

The modern Southern Steakhouse’s renovation plans call for a new look for the 7,000-square-foot restaurant, with a change in furniture and lighting, and a new sound system.

Former Alton owners Al Updike and Heather Clark opened the restaurant in 2010. The married couple will still own and operate it. Table 31 restaurant in Mooresville.

“We have known and have been customers of Al, Heather and Alton’s for years,” said Jim Gordon, Cambridge Hospitality partner. “And when the opportunity to buy the restaurant and add it to our growing portfolio arose, we jumped at the chance. “

Other Cambridge Hospitality concepts at Cornelius are Jack’s Corner Tap, Kat’s seafood cuisine and Tropicana Sports Bar. Partner Rad Bennett oversees day-to-day operations.

“Rad and I live and work here,” Gordon said. “The Lake Norman region is our home and we are fully committed to developing our brands to better serve and contribute to this community. Our vision is to create a group of neighborhood-centric dining and entertainment venues with exceptional product offerings; all of our plans will support this goal.
